Paradise Ride: August 8-9

What is the Paradise Ride Kaua`i   About?
Paradise Ride Kauai is the major annual fundraising event for Malama Pono – Kauai AIDS Project  established in 1986 as a grass-roots response to HIV on the Garden Isle. Since the success of the first Paradise Ride Kauai in 2006 – literally saving the agency – the August 2007 and 2008 rides have established PRK as a summer event on Kauai. The August 2007 and August 2008 rides--thanks to the awesome enthusiasm and generous support of our cyclists, sponsors, volunteers and island community--have been our most successful ever, raising much-needed funds for items and programs which are not otherwise funded by our United Way, State and Federal programs. Without this ‘extra assist’ from Paradise Ride Kauai many of our programs would go wanting for lack of the necessary support funds. Your participation in the ride helps Kauai’s only HIV/AIDS service organization to continue important education, community assistance, outreach, client support and the overall effort to end AIDS.

This has been a pivotal year for Malama Pono - the organization that is helping to stop the spread of AIDS, HIV, HEPATITIS and STD's on Kauai. They have recently expanded their services and are working diligently to open a much needed clinic to reach out to underserved populations here on island.

Their major fundraiser, Paradise Ride Kauai, kicks off two weeks from now. It is a 110 mile bike ride around the island of Kauai. We know that many have been impacted by the economy, so any and all donations, no matter how large or how small would be greatly appreciated.  No other organization provides the services that Malama Pono does. The services they provide save lives. Whatever you can spare will make a difference - a dollar, five, ten... five hundred.  It all goes directly toward services and stays here on Kauai.

SLEEPING GIANT REALTY HAS A COW!

by Debra Ryll 17. January 2009 11:12

Donated CowMore specifically, Sleeping Giant Sotheby’s International Realty had a cow delivered to a village in a third world country over the holidays. “We found out about Heifer International—a wonderful organization dedicated to ending world hunger—and decided to make a donation on behalf of the company and our agents,” said Broker/Owner Micki Evslin.

For a $500 donation, the charity delivers a cow to a struggling family in one of 125 countries around the world. One good cow can produce four gallons of milk a day, enough for a family to drink and to share. The milk protein transforms the health of malnourished children, and sales of surplus milk can help pay for education, medicine, clothing and other necessities. And because a healthy cow can produce a calf every year, a single gift can help an entire community move from poverty to self-reliance. “The recipient family is obligated to pass the offspring on to another member of the community,” notes Broker Debra Blachowiak, “so it’s truly a gift that keeps on giving.”

Heifer International offers many levels of giving; donors can choose from cows, sheep, goats, ducks—or even honeybees. For more information, contact: www.heifer.org
